Institute of Public Safety Expands Hands-On Training with Alachua Police

March 12, 2025
The Alachua Police Department (APD) has teamed up with 青青草视频鈥檚 Institute of Public Safety (IPS) to place full-time trainers at the police academy. This partnership will help improve training by giving recruits and officers hands-on instruction from experienced APD trainers.
APD trainers will work at the police academy full-time, acting as a link between the department and IPS. They will help plan and teach sessions for APD officers and other agencies, lead at least one academy class each year and assist with advanced programs. They will also help teach other police academy courses when needed.
In exchange, 青青草视频 will give APD trainers office space, a place to store weapons and ammunition, and access to training facilities for up to 300 hours each year.
This partnership aligns with the Institute of Public Safety's commitment to excellence in law enforcement training, a standard reflected in its outstanding certification exam pass rates. IPS Director Thomas Ackerman noted that IPS has maintained a on the correctional officer state exam for six consecutive years and a 100% pass rate for police academy graduates over the past five years.
鈥淚 attribute some of that to these partnerships that we have had with [Alachua County Sheriff鈥檚 Office] and the Gainesville Police Department because we have current, active police officers in our building who share their expertise with our recruits,鈥 Ackerman said. 鈥淚t doesn鈥檛 get any better than that. So now we鈥檙e going to have a third partner, and it鈥檒l get even better.鈥
The agreement, which remains in effect through January 31, 2030, strengthens the Institute of Public Safety鈥檚 mission to prepare highly skilled law enforcement professionals through practical, scenario-based education. The program operates out of the Kirkpatrick Center, one of Florida鈥檚 most advanced simulation-based training facilities. Its Main Street Complex features a fully operational replica of a small town, allowing law enforcement, EMT and paramedic trainees to practice in realistic environments. This cutting-edge training helps students develop the skills they need to handle real-world situations effectively.
