Displaced Homemaker Program

Overview

The Displaced Homemaker Program (DHP) offers educational assistance and additional support to empower people in our community who are transitioning into employment after working primarily in the home. Many participants have lost financial support after a life-changing event.

If you are job hunting or thinking about returning to school, DHP offers free classes and workshops throughout the year. Specialized services include boosting self-esteem, improving communications skills, assertiveness training, resume assistance, job searching techniques, and interview practice. We also provide support for those who are returning to SF or seeking additional training. A basic computer class is offered.

Since 1984, DHP has assisted more than 4,500 people in our community, resulting in increased wages and buying power, and a reduced need for social services. A clothing closet and food pantry are also available for those in the program.
