ICYMI: ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ’s 2024 Award Retrospective

NCMPR Paragon Awards and the 2024 Win Phillips Town Gown Relations Award were a few notable honors the ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ community earned over the past year. Here are a few accomplishments you might have missed:
- SF Marketing & Communications earned five NCMPR Medallion Awards: The MarCom team would go on to win two Gold NCMPR Paragon Awards.
- Herman Ramos and Lee Starling were awarded Part-Time Faculty Excellence Awards: The honor recognizes part-time faculty who demonstrate excellence at ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ, in their profession, and in the community.
- The SF Model U.S. Senate team won nearly half of the awards at the 52nd Annual Model U.S. Senate: The competition happened March 21-23.
- The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society awarded a Paragon Award to SF President Dr. Paul Broadie II: SF’s PTK chapter earned an international 5-star rating for the second consecutive year.
- SF students participated in the 2024 SkillsUSA Florida State Leadership and Skills Conference, winning Gold and Silver awards: Winning the awards demonstrates ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ’s excellence in vocational education, boosting its reputation and students’ employability.
- The Dance Theatre of Santa Fe was selected for the Gala concert at the American College Dance Association’s annual conference: ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ was one of only three state colleges to attend the conference and the only of those three selected for this highest honor.
- Cheryl Farrell won the 2024 Career Service STAR Award Winner: This employee embodies excellence in Service, Teamwork, Attitude and Reliability (STAR).
- The Academy of Science and Technology at ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ earned a school grade of "A" from the Florida Department of Education: The Academy scored at the top in District exams earning #1 in Grade 9 English/Language assessment, Algebra 1 End of Course exam, and Geometry End of Course exam.
- The SF Teaching Zoo Zero Wasters finished 11th out of 144 teams in the Plastic Free EcoChallenge: The team used the EcoChallenge platform to choose actions that would reduce single-use plastic.
- SF Trustee Caridad "Carrie" E. Lee won the 2024 Trustee Leadership Award: She was recognized by the Association of Community College Trustees.
- SF art professor Mario Mutis was awarded the 2024 Matthew Quinn Prize by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation: This prestigious recognition highlights Mario's outstanding contributions to the field of art and education.
- ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ was awarded a Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant: This is the fourth time the college has received this grant through the Florida Attorney General's office.
- SF was also awarded a $245,955 Equipment Upgrade and Modernization (EUM) Grant: These funds will enhance the Automotive Service Technology and Automotive Service Management Technology.
- Sherry Houston was honored with the 2024 Win Phillips Town Gown Relations Award: This prestigious recognition celebrates leaders who strengthen the connection between the greater Gainesville community and the University of Florida.
