The SF Teaching Zoo Zero Wasters Invite You to Join the Plastic Free Eco Challenge!

June 27, 2022 - The Plastic Free EcoChallenge starts on July 1! Join the SF Teaching Zoo and Student Life to learn about the problems with plastic consumption and challenge yourself to form new and sustainable habits! Participants who join the "SF Teaching Zoo Zero Wasters" team will receive a variety of perks in July including:

  • $1 off Zoo Admission (SF employees receive $1 off admission for any guests that visit the zoo with them)
  • 20% off purchases at (in store and online)
  • 20% off purchases at
  • 15% off purchases at (both locations)
  • 10% off 1 item $50 or less (excluding designer and furniture) at *July 1-8 ONLY
  • 10% off purchases $50 or less (excluding designer) at *July 1-7 ONLY
  • 1 free month of composting service with when you sign up in July
  • Opportunity to earn prizes
  • Tips and resources from captains and an invitation to a presentation from Zero Waste Gainesville at the Zoo on July 26.

Prizes include:

  1. The first 25 team members who earn 150 points will receive 1 free adult admission to the SF Teaching Zoo
  2. The first 25 team members who earn 225 points will receive 10% off a gift shop purchase at the SF Teaching Zoo
  3. The top 3 point earners will receive a gift card to Life Unplastic.

How does it work? Choose actions that you can commit to throughout the challenge. Find actions that match your values, lifestyle, and passions. Student Life will offer numerous opportunities to participate in actions and earn points, including:

  • A screening of the PBS News Hour documentary The Plastic Problem on Wednesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. in the Student Life Rec Room
  • A campus cleanup on Wednesday, July 20 from 9-10 a.m. at the SF Teaching Zoo (sign up).
  • Turning old t-shirts into upcycled toys for shelter animals on Wednesday, July 27 in the S Lobby. A t-shirt donation bin is located in the S Lobby.
