Gainesville, FL – A six run second inning was enough for the Pioneers of Indian River on Friday afternoon at the FCSAA Tournament, as they rode the big frame to a 9-6 first round victory over the ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ Saints. The loss drops SF into the elimination bracket against Gulf Coast State College tonight at 6:30 p.m.

ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ (32-22) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Indian River bounced back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie it up, and exploded for six runs in the second on seven hits to take a 7-1 lead.

Cassandra Garcia smashed a three-run homer in the third, and combined with a RBI single by Evelyn Arguelles made it a 7-5 game. Indian River got two back in the bottom of the third and the Saints would only plate one more in the seventh for the 9-6 final.

ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ and Gulf Coast will square off at 6:30 p.m. in an elimination game. The winner will advance on to play Saturday and the loser will see their season come to an end.
